Gayngs is described on Wikipedia as “a Midwestern indie band with a 1980s soft rock-inspired sound” while the band’s press release mentions the goal in mind was a sound ringing true to “a collection of drugged-up keyboards and slick bedroom production.“
The name Gayngs is most likely new to you, but the music by members of this indie supergroup may have crossed your path before, with the likes of players from across the board such as Justin Vernon and Mike Noyce (Bon Iver), P.O.S (Rhymesayers), Dessa (Doomtree) and Michael Lewis (Andrew Bird).

Gayngs Album Cover
The album has been described as a ‘bedroom record’ and Ryan Olson is not afraid to admit this, stating that “from the beginning I’ve had folks saying ‘we’re going to get pregnant to this shit’. And if people need a new fuck jams album I’m totally down to be part of that.”
The album cover design wasn’t left out either. Says Olson, “It’s a combination of a marijuana leaf and a vagina, yeah. It’s entirely what the album’s about. It’s about fucking girls, and fucking girls. The artist came up with 20 ideas of symbols with different back stories, and that one was instantly obviously the one. Weed is a good ingredient for sex, though some people freak out on it and some fall asleep.”

The inclusion of artists from the soft rock, indie and hip-hop/soul scene has resulted in an album dubbed “the non-ironic smooth & experimental sex pop record of 2010.” The début release, Relayted, has been received well by critics and hailed by The Guardian as “the album of the year so far” – all before the 23-man band played their first show.
Gayngs first performance, billed as “The Last Prom on Earth”, saw all 23 members perform, as well as a surprise cameo by Prince.
Enjoy the video below of Gayngs’ first live performance of ‘Gaudy Side of Town’ complete with Justin Vernon singing through an Auto-Tuned mic, and while you’re at it enjoy these links to download Gayngs’ music.

The video was produced and directed by bitoCREATIVE’s Adriaan Louw and Luca Vincenzo who said the idea “entailed an empty attic, confetti and cake, lesbians and loners, little dreams and big egos”. Click here to read more on that.
Cape Town based photographer Thomas Pepler was on location to capture some of the moments during the 15 hour shoot – click here to view those photos.

Dis poes woes!
I’m talking about the new video from the original afrikaans homeboy, Jack Parrow, featuring van Coke.
I have been trying to find some sort of angle to write about mr Parrow for a while now, cause he aint exactly rocknroll. (Although I’m sure he could spit a few lines to try and convince us otherwise.) Well now that he has teamed up with the current bad-boy and real RocknRoller, Francois Van Coke, we have enough reason to open the doors to Mr. Parrow.
But first things first. Check out this fantastic video that is making some serious waves around the Interwebs.
Not too shabby né? Ja nee, afrikaners is plesierig en hulle hou daarvan om te dans dans dans!
Seriously though… the boere are pushing the envelope in what will become known as the “golden age” of Afrikaner culture. Gooi weg daai trek-klavier!
Speaking of pushing envelopes. How wicked is the new look RocknRoller?
